Introduction

Reviewed October 13, 2026. Figures reflect publicly available information as of the date of this review.

This FTMO review starts with the question that matters most. Will FTMO pay you when you profit, or will it find a rule to disqualify you? Based on public payout logs and community reports, FTMO pays. The firm states that it has paid more than $650 million in rewards. Independent aggregators found few unresolved payout disputes. The bigger danger is breaking a rule during the challenge. Some traders also report account closures after payouts.

FTMO, operated by FTMO s.r.o. and headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic, runs simulated trading accounts on MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader and TradingView. Liquidity providers supply its data feed, and FTMO does not name them publicly. Otakar Šuffner and Marek Vašíček founded the company in 2015. OANDA Global Corporation joined the FTMO group on December 2, 2025. Under our five-factor prop intelligence methodology, FTMO earns a Gold Standard classification with a composite score of 80.05 out of 100. That is a narrow pass of the 80-point line.

Capital Architecture & Legal Framework

FTMO Review: Capital Architecture and Legal Framework

FTMO runs a purely simulated evaluation model. You trade virtual money, and FTMO pays real rewards from your simulated profits.

FTMO says its traders use simulated capital only. It also says it is not a broker and accepts no deposits. That places it in the Demo tier of our framework, not the live A-Book tier. FTMO does not publish whether it hedges funded traders with outside liquidity. One third-party review argues that challenge fees fund most of the business. Treat that as informed opinion, not verified fact.

The tech stack is simple. Traders choose MT4, MT5 or cTrader, and FTMO’s help pages also cover TradingView. Its sister brand OANDA is a regulated broker group, yet FTMO plans to run OANDA as a standalone business. FTMO’s own product is not a brokerage service. It sells simulated trading and education. Therefore, traders get no client-money protection of the kind a licensed broker provides.

FTMO serves more than 140 countries. US residents use a separate route at ftmo.oanda.com, with US-specific terms and the label “Rewards Account.” Those terms reference OANDA Prop US Corporation. Always read the agreement that matches your residence.

Account Tiers & Challenge Ecosystem

Account Tiers and Challenge Ecosystem

A $100,000 FTMO account costs €540 on the 2-Step path and €499 on the 1-Step path as of the date of this review. Account sizes run from $10,000 to $200,000. Traders can merge accounts for a maximum initial allocation of $400,000.

The 2-Step path has two phases. Phase 1 requires a 10% profit target, and Phase 2 requires 5%. Both need at least 4 trading days. FTMO advertises no time limit. The 1-Step path has a single 10% target. It adds a Best Day rule, which stops one day from supplying more than half of your total positive-day profit, according to third-party summaries. FTMO’s site also advertises a newer Instant Account, its answer to the instant funding prop firm model. Its payout page says the maximum loss limit does not reset after a withdrawal.

Here is how the prop firm challenge cost compares. Peer 2-Step $100,000 fees are $550 at FundedNext and $555 at Funding Pips. FTMO’s €540 equals roughly $590, about 7% above that baseline. However, FTMO refunds the 2-Step fee with your first reward, so a paid trader’s net cost is zero. The 1-Step fee is not refundable. At roughly $545, it sits slightly below the $562 median of four peer one-step programs.

The prop firm scaling plan is slow but clear. You need at least 10% net profit across a 4-month cycle and at least 2 processed rewards. Then FTMO raises your balance by 25% and lifts your reward ratio to 90%. The ceiling is $2,000,000 in total. FundedNext adds 40% every four months and caps at $4,000,000, so FTMO scales more slowly. In FTMO’s own example, a $400,000 allocation reaches $800,000 after 16 months.

Evaluation Rules & Fine Print

Evaluation Rules and the Fine Print

FTMO rules are simple on the 2-Step path and stricter on the 1-Step path. The 2-Step uses a static drawdown, which most peers also offer.

Rule 2-Step Challenge 1-Step Challenge
Profit target 10% (Phase 1), 5% (Phase 2) 10%
Max daily loss 5% 3%
Max overall loss 10% 10%
Drawdown type Static, from initial balance End-of-day trailing (per third parties)
Measured on Equity, including open trades Equity, including open trades
Consistency rule None Best Day rule
Time limit None advertised None advertised

Equity-based daily loss means floating losses count. A trade can breach your limit even if the price later recovers. Third-party sources disagree on the 1-Step overall loss; one lists 6%, while most list 10%. Check the order screen before you pay.

News rules apply only to funded Standard accounts. FTMO blocks order execution for 2 minutes before and after selected releases. That includes your stop loss and take profit. The Challenge, Verification and Swing accounts are exempt. Swing accounts trade at lower leverage, about 1:30 against 1:100, based on third-party reports. Third-party summaries also say Standard funded accounts cannot hold positions over weekends.

Hidden prop firm fees are limited. FTMO charges no monthly, platform or withdrawal fee. Still, wire and card payouts need at least $20 in closed profit, and crypto needs $50. Skrill pays up to $3,000 per request. Trading commissions also count toward your limits. One trader reported a breach caused by an $8.14 commission.

Payout Reliability & Reputation

FTMO Review: Payout Reliability and Trader Reputation

The FTMO payout process is fast and well documented. A small group of traders still reports post-payout account closures.

You can request a reward from day 14 after your first trade. FTMO reviews the request within 1–2 business days. Then it sends the money within 1–2 business days of invoice approval. One aggregator reports an average of about 8 hours. Trustpilot reviewers describe approvals from under 2 hours to 2 business days.

FTMO shows a 4.8 out of 5 Trustpilot score on its own site. One aggregator counted 42,890 reviews, with 1,115 one-star ratings, or about 2.6%. Positive themes repeat. Traders praise fast payouts, stable execution and 24/7 support in 21 languages.

Complaints follow a pattern too. Some traders say they received one or two payouts and then faced a “non-genuine trading” flag. Others describe rigid support during disputes. One trader documented a $4.26 gap between TradingView and FTMO’s USOIL.cash during a contract rollover. A widely shared January 2026 social post also alleged a payout denial over a small risk overage. We could not verify that claim. FTMO’s Forbidden Trading Practices page gives the firm discretion, so read it before you buy.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths and Weaknesses

The table below summarizes the trade-offs. Each item ties to a benchmark where one exists.

Strengths

  • Payout record: Reward review in 1–2 business days; no fee on withdrawals
  • Static drawdown (2-Step): 10% static, matching the 2-Step peer baseline
  • No time limit: Removes the 30/60-day pressure of older formats
  • Fee refund: 2-Step fee returns with the first reward
  • Brand longevity: Operating since 2015, versus 2022 for FundedNext

Weaknesses

  • Premium price: €540 for $100,000, about 7% above the 2-Step peer baseline
  • Standard split: 80% on 2-Step, against up to 95% at FundedNext and 100% at The5ers
  • Slow scaling: 25% per cycle, versus 40% at FundedNext
  • Conduct clauses: Discretionary “non-genuine trading” enforcement
  • News and weekend limits: Apply to funded Standard accounts

Verdict

FTMO Review: Overall Verdict

FTMO earns a Gold Standard classification by a narrow margin. Its payout reliability and static 2-Step drawdown carry the score. Premium pricing and discretionary conduct clauses hold it back.

FTMO fits disciplined day and swing traders who value payout certainty over a low entry price. It also suits traders who want a static drawdown and no time limit. It fits poorly for budget-focused traders. News scalpers on funded Standard accounts will also struggle. Among immediate peers, FundedNext and Funding Pips offer cheaper or richer splits. FTMO offers the longer record.

FTMO is a Prague-based, simulated-capital proprietary trading firm that earns a narrow Gold Standard rating of 80.05 out of 100 for its payout reliability and static 2-Step drawdown, offset by premium pricing and discretionary conduct clauses.

Staff Insight

Staff Insight

This desk reviewed FTMO’s published pages and third-party reports. It did not run live challenge accounts for this review. These notes reflect that limit.

Entity layering. FTMO s.r.o. serves most of the world. US traders contract through an OANDA-linked route with different terms. Always confirm which entity signs your agreement.

Marketing versus practice. The site markets “funded accounts” and “rewards.” The legal text calls them simulated. Both statements are accurate, but beginners often miss the gap.

Pricing drift. Sources list the 1-Step $100,000 fee at both €499 and a lower discounted figure. The order screen is the only price that counts.

Execution and feed. FTMO says liquidity providers power its feed. Complaints about rollover price gaps are rare relative to its size. Even so, they deserve monitoring.

New products. FTMO Futures is new. One August 2026 review criticized unpublished contract terms. We did not score it.
